Fijian Barefoot Massage is a deep tissue massage technique that is good to go anywhere and anytime. Every massage therapist should have this modality as their go-to massage. Also, there is no massage table or lotion needed, and the client is fully dressed.
So, what is the difference between Fijian Barefoot and Ashiatsu? Simple, Ashiatsu uses full-on foot compression with deep but long sweeping strokes, and the client is undressed. Fijian uses different foot parts to press short detailed movements with the client fully dressed as there is no lotion. Although Fijian Barefoot uses compression presses, they are not stroke-like. It is done on the floor and can be added to Ashiatsu. But Ashiatsu can not be added to Fijian. They are completely different, and we recommend both styles for your massage practice.
During the training, the student will apply neuromuscular-like detailed movements with their feet. Then they will deliver the foot strokes on the client while the therapist sits on a stool. In this program, the client is dressed and lying on a mat or the floor. We are super excited about offering this unique deep tissue massage technique that will save therapists’ hands!

What you need to bring to class:
One flat sheet, one-face cradle cover, and a face cradle pillow.
Please come with pedicured feet or wear socks.
For the therapist’s comfort, please wear loose clothing. Yoga capris or pants work best; if you wear yoga pants, we’ll roll the pant legs up to the knee. Men find long basketball shorts or sweatpants to be most appropriate. Also, students need to please bring a packed lunch, drinks, and snacks. But we do provide water. During class, we will break for a short lunch.
In Naples, FL, Fijian Barefoot Massage Training Class, we provide the stool, mat, and pillow for the class training because the student will place the stool right next to the client; the stool is sometimes on the mat. For instance, if the mat is too thick, the stool will be unstable. A folding 17-inch stool will work fine. If you’re taller than 5’10”, you may prefer a 24-inch stool. Also, students will need two pillows for your client to bolster the knees and a face cradle for the floor. Also, we provide the face cradle frames in the workshop. Besides, one comes with the class – you’ll need your cushioned face rest to place over the frame.
To keep the heels smooth, we recommend heel socks.
